i saw mingyur rinpoche speak tonight, with zoe in towe. i had to go out of the shrine room pretty early on because she was making noise, but I still got to hear a lot of the talk from outside. when rinpoche finished, he came down the stairs to where i was standing. he didn’t really look at anyone as he passed by, but when he saw zoe in my arms, he said, “OH!! Baby!!” and came over to look at her for a few seconds. i don’t know if she looked back. regardless, it was so special. he looked up at me and then kept moving, into his private room. i feel really happy and lucky tonight.

saw bon iver play recently in boulder, and this song (the wolves, act I and II) was amazing. he encouraged the audience to sing “what might have been lost” over and over together, and to eventually dissolve into wild, loud noises as the song dissolved. (he went much farther with it in concert). he said, “anything you’re still holding onto from 2008, let it out.”

to speak in my true voice

i feel i speak in many different voices. some of them are high, and some of them are low. i have a girly voice, a whiny voice, a shy voice, a silly voice. i have a voice i use with my brothers and a voice i use with my cat and a voice i use with my daughter. i am creating this blog in an attempt to practice speaking (writing) in my true voice — a voice which exists deep within me, which is inherently healthy and good, and which can rise to the surface more regularly with a little practice.

so far so good.
